Catholic Social Teaching
Through our Catholic ethos, curriculum and children’s groups, we follow the seven principles of Catholic Social Teaching:
At St Joseph’s we explore the above principles through our Religious Education curriculum: To Love You More Dearly. The Infant school version of St Vincent De Paul society (The Very Mini- Vinnies) meets once a week to take part in activities that are based on these principles.
At St Edwards’s we explore these principles through our Religious Education curriculum: To Love You More Dearly. The Junior version of St Vincent De Paul Society (The Mini- Vinnies) meets once a week to discuss these principles and promote and organise activities and events based on these principles.
Members of both groups are encouraged to implement these principles through children friendly language and activities appropriate for each principle:
-Help family members and the people at school
e.g. look after our classrooms (sharpen pencils etc), complete chores at home, make sure others are included at school.
-Look after God’s amazing world
e.g. pick up litter, plant trees, look after our environment, plant trees.
-Make sure people feel loved and special?
e.g. tell people about Jesus, be kind to others, reward those who help us, stand up for people who are being treated unfairly.
-Work together, to take care of our community.
e.g. sing at places in our community, collect food bank items, pray for those in other countries.
-Help those that have less than us.
e.g. raise money during charitable events, be a friend to someone who is feeling left out.
-Let people know about and reward, good work.
e.g. celebrate work and good deeds, promote our work., thank people for their hard work.
-Encourage people to be happy, healthy, safe and know that they are loved by God.
e.g. good choices poster, promote listening and following of rules, share what you have with others.
